Collagen + Fruit Smoothie

I first learned about collagen protein from my trainer; he suggested it when I asked for a post-gym supplement. So I did a quick Google search and found that collagen promotes healthy joints, hair, skin and nails. SOLD! I’m forever trying to grow out my hair.

A few weeks later, I saw a presentation by Michelle Rivas, from The Healthy Latina, about wellness. No lie — she made collagen smoothies for everyone in the audience. Michelle explained that collagen does a ton for your skin. Not only does it reduce wrinkles, but it also prevents cellulite and helps with inflammatory conditions, like acne and eczema. SOLD AGAIN! Unfortunately, collagen production begins to decline as we age, so finding an alternative source is key.

My trainer and Michelle both recommended the same brand — Vital Proteins, made right here in Illinois, USA! They have several varieties, but I opted for the Marine Collagen Peptides, which are non GMO, gluten free and Paleo friendly. Moreover, when compared to bovine (cow) collagen,  marine (fish) collagen appears to be superior in terms of absorption and digestibility. For more details, check out this piece from Paleo Hacks.

Enjoy it alone or mixed in with a smoothie, like below.
